Per un po’ di tempo Press Play Again è rimasto in stand-by per via dei tanti progetti del gruppo di lavoro di RMW, anche se a qualcuno di noi è venuta spesso un’idea per pubblicare un nuovo numero. Così eccoci qui con un’idea scaturita dalla passione di rileggere le riviste di computer e videogiochi degli anni ‘80: prendere i listati di giochi accattivanti, digitarli sui vari sistemi, testarli e proporli su PPA in tutto il loro splendore in formato digitale, pronti per essere lanciati su hardware originale o emulatore.
Questo numero 11 ospita infatti tutti i giochi (ben 7) che furono pubblicati come listati BASIC sul numero 36 di C+VG (Computer and Video Games UK), una famosa e storica rivista del Regno Unito. Di solito, anche per la necessaria brevità dei listati pubblicati da questi magazine, la qualità e il concept dei giochi non erano eccelsi, ma talvolta, invece, si potevano incontrare vere e proprie “chicche”, videogame ben strutturati e coinvolgenti, come nel caso dei titoli proposti nel numero di PPA che avete tra le mani.
Godetevi allora 7 giochi per 7 sistemi diversi! Un sorprendente Frogger per C64, Thunderman un gioco di destrezza per TI-99/4A, LoopDeLoop un coloratissimo arcade per ZX Spectrum, Enchanted Castle un adventure grafico per BBC Micro, Bouncer Bert un jump’n’run per Vic-20, Turret, tiro al bersaglio alieno su Atari 8-bit ed infine Chopper uno shooting duel su Dragon 32. Ce n’è per tutti i gusti e per molti degli home computer in voga oltre 40 anni fa.

Press Play Again issue 11
For a little while, Press Play Again remained on standby due to the many projects undertaken by the RMW working group, even though some of us often had ideas to release a new issue. So here we are with an idea born out of a passion for re-reading computer and video game magazines from the 1980s: take the listings of appealing games, type them into old computers, test them and offer them on PPA in all their splendour and in digital format, ready to be launched on original hardware or emulators.
This issue features all seven games that were published as BASIC listings in issue 36 of C+VG (Computer and Video Games UK), a famous and historic magazine from the United Kingdom. Usually, due to the necessary brevity of the listings published by these magazines, the quality and concept of the games were not outstanding, but sometimes, however, you could find real “gems”, well-structured and engaging videogames, as is the case with the titles featured in the issue of PPA you have in your hands.

A surprising Frogger for C64, Thunderman, a game of skill for TI-99/4A, LoopDeLoop a colourful arcade game for ZX Spectrum, Enchanted Castle a graphic adventure for BBC Micro, Bouncer Bert a jump’n’run for Vic-20, Turret, alien target shooting on Atari 8-bit and finally Chopper, a shooting duel for Dragon 32. There’s something for everyone and for many of the home computers that were popular over 40 years ago.
